Gianni Infantino unveils FIFA Peace Prize, can Trump become first winner?
FIFA to award first-ever Peace Prize at World Cup draw in Washington
FIFA has announced the launch of the FIFA Peace Prize, with the first award to be presented during the World Cup draw in Washington on December 5, 2025.
The president of the football body, Gianni Infantino, has a very close relationship with Trump, and the development comes after the U.S. president failed to win the Nobel Peace Prize despite multiple endorsements and repeated wishes for it.
When asked if the first recipient will be his “close friend” President Trump, Infantino replied, “On the 5th of December. You will see.”
The award was officially introduced at the America Business Forum in Miami, where Infantino said that in a world that is “much polarised and divided,” “it is fundamental to recognise the outstanding contribution of those who work hard to end conflicts.”
The organisation has announced that the award, on behalf of fans worldwide, will be presented annually.
President Trump has boasted about his peacekeeping efforts multiple times. He often claims to have stopped 7-8 wars since taking office in January this year.
He expressed his wish to win the Nobel Peace Prize but was overlooked last month when the award was given to Venezuela opposition leader Maria Corina Machado.
It remains unclear whether President Trump will become the first recipient of the FIFA Peace Prize or be snubbed again.
