Experts weigh in on Trump’s chances of winning Nobel Peace Prize
Nobel Peace Prize will be announced on October 10
Several countries, including Pakistan, Israel and Azerbaijan have recommended the United States President Donald Trump for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize.
Experts have now weighed in on whether Trump has any chance of winning the award.
According to Reuters, experts have revealed that the US president's lobbying is counterproductive and he will not win the Nobel Peace Prize.
The report further stated that the award-giving committee prefers to work independently, adding that the award, to be announced on October 10, might be given to a humanitarian organization working in a challenging environment.
Some of the leading contenders include:
- UNHCR,
- UNICEF,
- The Red Cross,
- Doctors without Borders,
- Sundan’s Emergency Response Room,
and several others.
Asle Sveen, a historian of the prize, said, “There is no chance that Trump could win the Peace Prize at all,” citing his support for Israel in its genocidal war against Palestine.
The award’s foundation, Alfred Nobel’s will, has also stated that the award must go to the person or organization who promoted fellowship and harmony among nations.
Previously several surprising names have won the award including Barack Obama, just eight months after becoming U.S. president and Henry Kissinger during the height of Vietnam war.
So, there still exist a chance, no matter how slim, that Trump might win the Nobel Peace Prize.
