Ryanair flight FR642 declares emergency over UK, prompting emergency procedures
Pilots of Ryanair flight, have declared loss of communication, are now working to re-establish contact with air traffic control
Ryanair flight FR642, a Boeing 737-800 traveling from Valencia, Spain, reportedly declared a loss of communication while approaching London Stansted Airport.
The aircraft’s crew was unable to communicate with air traffic control (ATC), and as a result activated emergency protocols by squawking the emergency code 7600, which signals a radio communications failure.
The plane entered a holding pattern at 9,000 feet where it circled for a specific period of time.
Emergency response and flight cancellation
After the aircraft lost communication capabilities, the pilots followed emergency procedures, prompting air traffic controllers to implement immediate procedures to ensure the safe separation of all affected aircraft.
Concerning the situation, EasyJet refused to attempt another takeoff, and as a result, flight U24706 to Nantes was eventually cancelled. The aircraft returned to its parking position at Terminal 2.
Ryanair flight FR642 returns to safety
The situation was resolved after the aircraft had safely landed at London Stansted Airport.
It was then given directions by a "follow me” car, which prevented any further delays.
The aircraft which had been in the air for more than two hours was given immediate instructions by airport officials.
It resulted in a stressful situation and air traffic control ensured a safe outcome despite the intense challenges presented by the loss of communication.
Ryanair’s response to the tragic incident
Ryanair confirmed that the flight crew had established procedures to ensure the safety of everyone onboard.
The airline has expressed its commitment to further review the incident and to cooperate with aviation authorities to assess any potential improvements to its communication systems.
In this connection, an investigation team will determine whether the error originated from air traffic controllers, communication failures or pilot navigation mistakes between the control tower and the approaching Nouvelair aircraft.
Air travel will continue to prosper as long as durable systems are in place to manage emergencies and ensure the safety and trust of passengers worldwide.
Aviation professionals face such challenges on daily basis. The continuous need for vigilance can contribute to preparedness in every aspect of air traffic management.
