The European Medicines Agency (EMA) in recent development has backed the opinions of medical experts by debunking Donald Trump’s proclaimed link between paracetamol, also called Tylenol in the US, and autism.

The White House on Monday announced the potential connection between the usage of Tylenol during the pregnancy period and growing risks of autism in newborns.

According to US President Donald Trump, the pregnant ladies should “fight like hell” to avoid taking paracetamol as “I think we found an answer to autism.”

As per EMA statement, there is no scientific evidence that backs these claims related to autism risks.

“There is no new evidence that would require changes to the current EU recommendations for use,” an agency spokesperson told Euronews.

The agency in 2019 also conducted a study on the neurodevelopment of children exposed to paracetamol during gestation. According to their reviewed studies, no potential link was found, claiming the association between paracetamol or Tylenol and neurodevelopment disorders.

“When needed, paracetamol can be used during pregnancy. However, the advice is to use it at the lowest effective dose, for the shortest possible time and as infrequently as possible,” the spokesperson said.

The announcement came on the heels of a pledge by US health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. who promised to find the cause of autism by September.

The whole scientific community has refuted these groundless claims as the experts believe that autism is caused by environmental and genetic factors.
