Teyana Taylor calls culinary school ‘therapeutic'

Teyana Taylor is adding a new title to her résumé, culinary student. The singer and actress revealed to Marie Claire that she has officially enrolled in culinary school, calling the experience both exciting and calming. 

“I’m so excited. Like, literally as soon as we get off this interview, I’m going straight to class. I’m putting on my coat, my uniform, and I’m getting to it,” the 34-year-old shared. 

“It’s always been a passion of mine. I’ve always loved to cook. It’s been very therapeutic for me.”

For Taylor, diving into cooking is about more than just learning new skills. She explained that pursuing this path is her way of carving out space for herself despite the demands of her busy life, which includes motherhood and her professional commitments. 

“I don’t have the time to do it, but I have the time to show up for me,” she said. 

“It’s ‘work’ in the best way because it’s something that you’re doing for you. It’s a passion that you’re turning into purpose.”

The A Thousand and One star first announced her decision in July with a playful Instagram video set to GloRilla’s LET HER COOK.

Dressed in an apron and chef’s hat featuring the logo of the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts, Taylor revealed that the dream had been with her since childhood.

“Since I was a little girl, I remember being glued next to whoever was in the kitchen while the other kids played around!” she wrote in her caption. 

“Lol watching all the amazing women in my life cook all our favorite meals with so much love and joy. I must say I def got a cooking ass family lol That’s where it all started.”

Now, as she balances life as a mom to daughters Junie, 9, and Rue, 5, with her new studies, Taylor is turning that childhood love of cooking into a passion-driven journey she’s embracing wholeheartedly.
