Brian Armstrong has disclosed the role of artificial intelligence in generating the 40 percent of codes at Coinbase with an aim to increase the percentage in the coming months.

Coinbase CEO took to X on Wednesday, announcing the future of crypto exchange giant, “Approximately 40 percent of daily code written at Coinbase is AI-generated. I want to get it to over 50 percent by October.”

“Undoubtedly it needs to be reviewed and understood, and not all areas of the business can use AI-powered code. But we should be using it responsibly as much as we possibly can,” Armstrong added.

In recent years, Coinbase is making significant efforts in the field of artificial intelligence, turning their engineers into “AI-natives.”

The tech giant has rolled out several tools like Copilot and Cursor, to precipitate development across the software lifecycle.

While talking to Stripe cofounder John Collison on Cheeky Pin podcast, Armstrong has also vouched for a strong AI mandate by securing enterprise licenses for Cursor and GitHub Copilot. The CEO also made sure that employees could use the AI coding assistants for better efficiency.

"I mandated it, because AI is important, we need you to all learn it at least on board. You don't have to use it every day yet until we do some training, but at least onboard by the end of the week. And if not, I'm hosting a meeting with everybody who hasn't done it, and I'd like to meet with you to understand why," he said.

Coinbase aims to integrate AI in coding applications to boost productivity in diverse areas like testing, frontend, and greenfield projects.
