Sergio Garcia has withdrawn from the Irish Open due to disappointment after failing to qualify for Luke Donald’s European Ryder Cup team.

The 45-year-old golfer informed Golfmagic about his decision of opting out from this week’s Irish Open at The K Club, saying, “I am not in the right frame of mind to compete.”

One of the best golf athletes has been a top scorer in the Ryder Cup having racked up 28.5 points for Team Europe, across 10 straight appearances from 1999 to 2021.

He wasn’t part of the team that won in Rome two years ago.

Starting 2025 strongly, winning the LIV Golf Hong Kong tournament, finishing third in Miami and notching a T6 in Riyadh, Garcia hoped to make a record 11th appearance in the European Ryder Cup.

His last Masters win was back in 2017 and since then, the player has faced difficulty in making his way back in Top 10. He finished no higher than 10th in any of the final nine LIV events of the season.

Luke Donald instead chose six other players for the European Ryder Cup including Jon Rahm, Shane Lowry, Viktor Hovland, Sepp Straka, Matt Fitzpatrick and Ludvig Aberg. These six athletes will join the automatic qualifiers.

The automatic qualifiers are Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Robert MacIntyre, Tyrrell Hatton and Rasmus Hojgaard.

The European Ryder Cup is scheduled from September 26-28, 2025.
