Instagram launches iPad app with stunning new features
Instagram launches a dedicated iPad app after over a decade of user requests
Instagram has finally rolled out a dedicated iPad app that is now globally available on the App Store.
The primary motive for the new app is to specifically optimize the experience for a larger screen.
Instagram has finally delivered something exciting users have been requesting for more than a decade - an iPad app.
The extra time was spent creating an experience, designed particularly for larger screens.
The app once installed launches directly into Reels, placing short term video front and center.
The main feed still appears in the center of the display leaving wide margins on either side.
Stories will remain at the top of the interface and messaging is easily accessible.
New features for iPad users
Meta has redesigned the Instagram experience for iPad users. When you open the app, you will notice that reels are appearing front and center.
Instagram’s Feed on iPad has three options.
- All: For recommended posts and reels from accounts you follow.
- Friends: You can see content from mutual followers.
- Latest: To sees posts and reels in chronological order
These feeds can be reordered according to your preference.
Messages and Notifications
The new version has now transformed the entire experience to suit the big screen.
It’s like if you are watching a reel and you can view comments coming on the side.
When you are in the messages tab, you can open a particular conversation while viewing all the active tabs on the left.
No doubt, this will help to reduce constant switching and delivers a comfortable viewing experience.
The company didn't make the iPad app a priority for 15 years. Instagram head Adam Mosseri has several times declared that the company was in no hurry to develop an iPad version.
The company has confirmed that a new Instagram app for iPad is now rolling out globally for devices running iPads iOS 15.1 and newer.
