Bayer Leverkusen has removed Erik Ten Hag as director after only three matches in charge
Bayer Leverkusen has fired Erik Ten Hag after just three games in charge. The former Manchester United director leaves after a 3-3 draw against Werder Bremen.
Bayer Leverkusen has removed Erik Ten Hag as director after only three matches in charge. Ten Hag was appointed in May as the successor to Xabi Alonso, who left for Real Madrid.
Bayer Leverkusen drew 3-3 against Werder Breman on Saturday, conceding two late pretensions, including a 94th nanosecond equaliser. The match saw Bremen’s Niklas Stark transferred off in the alternate half.
Ten Hag’s only home league game ended in a 2-1 defeat to Hoffenheim. Bayer Leverkusen had beaten Sonnenhof Grosspach 4-0 in the first round of the DFB Pokal.
Bayer Leverkusen’s principal superintendent, Fernando Carro, said in a statement “A parting of ways at this early stage of the season is painful, but we felt it was necessary. We remain married to achieving our pretensions for the season.”
Managing director Simon Rolfes added “This decision was n't easy, bit recent weeks showed that erecting a new tea, with this setup is not doable. We now concentrate on the coming way with a new setup.”
Ten Hag becomes the third former Manchester United director to be sacked in a week, following Ole Gunnar Solskijae at Besiktas and Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce.
Erik Ten Hag had to manage a team with numerous new players while dealing with departure of several crucial stars.
Experts suggested that the unforeseen changes in the team made it hard for Erik Ten Hag to establish his tactics effectively in such a short time.
