Is Taylor Swift's ‘Vigilante S--t’ really about Scooter Braun, ex wife Yael Cohen?
Scooter Braun speaks up if Taylor Swift's ‘Vigilante S--t’ is inspired by him and ex wife
Scooter Braun is setting the record straight about long-standing rumours linking him and his ex-wife Yael Cohen to Taylor Swift’s 2022 song Vigilante S--t.
The track, which describes a woman getting revenge with the help of another, sparked speculation that it was inspired by Swift’s public feud with Braun and his divorce from Yael.
But according to Braun, that theory doesn’t hold up.
During the July 17 episode of the Question Everything podcast, the 44-year-old music executive dismissed the idea, pointing to his current relationship with Yael as proof.
“'Cause me and Yael talk every day,” Braun explained. “My ex-wife is one of my best friends. So, me and my ex-wife laugh at that stuff.”
Braun and Cohen, who separated in 2021 after seven years of marriage, co-parent their three children, Jagger, 9, Levi, 7, and Hart, 5, and maintain a strong bond.
He said the label “ex” doesn’t feel right for them.
"That's the mother of my children," he said. "That is my family for life. I have a tattoo on my finger that says 'same team' after my divorce because she and I are the same team for life. It's what we say to each other."
While fans continue to speculate about the song’s inspiration, especially given Braun’s history with Swift, he made it clear he never saw himself in the lyrics.
“Great strategy move,” Braun said. “But no.”
Vigilante S--t was released the same year Braun finalized his divorce and followed years of tension with Swift, who had accused him of taking control of her music after his company acquired Big Machine Records in 2019, gaining ownership of the masters of her first six albums.
Though Swift never publicly named anyone tied to the song, she has since reclaimed ownership of her work.
