Paul Rust reveals James Franco’s meltdown after 2011 Oscars criticism
Paul Rust talks about his experience meeting James Franco
Paul Rust shared how James Franco struggled with harsh Oscar’s criticism on set after 2011 hosting gig.
After co-hosting the Oscars with Anne Hathaway, the 46-year-old actor allegedly lost his temper and had an outburst on set, kicking a chair before storming off.
On a December 27, episode of his With Gourley and Rust podcast, the 43-year-old actor and comedian shared, "I saw James Franco flip out once."
When Your Highness was released, College-Humour planned a promotional event for the film where a group would get together to play Dungeons and Dragons with the film’s lead actors, James and Danny McBride.
However, this took place just two days after the actor’s poorly reviewed hosting performance, which left him upset and in a distasteful mood.
Paul claimed The Interview star then proceeded to deliver an unusable performance on set of the promotion, mumbling his lines with his head down.
According to the comedian, the director even tried to question his behaviour, which resulted in the Eat, Pray, Love actor to get even more furious and went off script in the next take, mocking his Renaissance man persona.
He further revealed that his publicist had to step in to stop him for further ruining the moment, reminding him that he was on camera and shouldn’t be behaving like he was.
"Then the publicist comes in and, like, leans down and goes, 'Why are you saying that? The camera is on you right now. You shouldn’t be saying that,'" he explained.
