An 85-year-old British woman has been on a learning spree because she cannot sit around idly and do nothing. She has choosen chosen to grow herself intellectually.
Lucille Terry is from the English town of Cirencester, who secured her first degree in 1962, from the University of Manchester, is on her way to completing the fourth one.
According to a BBC report, Terry will be finishing her fourth degree with the third one after reaching in nineties.
Terry is currently studying religion, philosophy, and ethics. Previously, she had also worked as a teacher.
"I can't just sit around, do nothing, and watch television all the time," she said, who is a resident of Siddington Park with degrees in humanities, psychology and religious studies.
Before her teaching certificate, she also completed a science foundation course at The Open University in 1972.
Aiming to keep enthusiasm for life intact at the age of 85, she decided not to "just do crossword puzzles during her retirement, but chose to study which she enjoys.
Terry said people keep assuming she is brainy because she is studying for her fourth degree. She added that she’s not clever.
"I wasn't brilliant at school. I think one or two of my Open University courses I got first-class honours. You don't have to be brilliant to do it."
The pro-vice chancellor of The Open University in a letter to Terry, said: "Your pursuit of knowledge serves as a beacon of hope and encouragement to individuals of all ages, demonstrating that with dedication and perseverance, anything is possible."
