Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez lost because of THIS strategy
Inter Miami's rival team planned something tough against Messi, Suarez on field
Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez of Inter Miami got some tough time from Atlanta United in their recent match on Wednesday night.
Recently, Atlanta United defeated Inter Miami 3-1 thanks to an outstanding display of play. Their successful restraint of football legends Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez characterised this outstanding victory, according to Clutch Points.
At Chase Stadium, head coach Gonzalo Pineda gave his thoughts on how his team contained these elite forwards. The difficult task of totally neutralising the threat posed by superstars like Messi and Suarez falls on any squad.
However, Atlanta United managed to greatly reduce their influence. Messi, the eight-time winner of the Ballon d'Or, did manage to score, but it was only a fillip as Inter Miami's ten-game winning streak in the Major League Soccer ended unexpectedly.
Coach Pineda explained his tactical approach to stop Messi and Suarez: “I think understanding that Messi and Suarez were going to be on top, I wanted to have always a three vs two against them. The players did amazing in terms of those times.”
He added: “There were different difficult moments in the game where we didn’t read them or they were using balls in the build-up, but then we were always a good base of three players defending so that was also part of the why, because I wanted to be protected in the middle of the field in transition moments.”
