Doc Rivers to lead Milwaukee Bucks as the new head coach
Sixers President of Basketball Operations described Rivers as “one of the most successful coaches in NBA history"
National Basketball Association (NBA) master Doc Rivers has accepted the Milwaukee Bucks offer to be the team's head coach, CNN reported today.
The Bucks fired head coach Adrian Griffin, who had been with them since June 2023, earlier on Tuesday.
Bucks General Manager Jon Horst said in a statement that Griffin's firing was a "difficult decision to make during the season."
Rivers coached the Philadelphia 76ers for three seasons until he parted ways with them last May following three Eastern Conference semifinal losses.
At the time, Sixers President of Basketball Operations described Rivers as “one of the most successful coaches in NBA history."
The 62-year-old basketball coach has also worked with the Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Clippers, and Boston Celtics, whom he led to an NBA championship in 2008.
Shaquille O’Neal on a show said, "He does have championship experience. He does have experience dealing with large-name individuals, and superstars. For so long, he’s just been surviving off that one championship, so I would like to see him get another one."
In an interview with CNN, Rivers said, "To be a champion, you have to open up your heart."
"You have to take a step out. You have to take a risk. You have to get out of your comfort zone. You have to give yourself to the team. Just get over yourself. And when you do that, it all comes back to you."
