Sydney Sweeney defends Euphoria creator Sam Levinson over explicit scenes criticism
Sydney Sweeney claims to fame with her Cassie character in Euphoria series
Sydney Sweeney has recently spoken in favour of Euphoria creator Sam Levinson after he received backlash from viewers for nudity and explicit scenes in The Idol.
Sweeney, who rose to fame with her role as Cassie Howard on Euphoria, praised the controversial Levinson for his projects, claiming that art is nothing if it never causes "controversy".
"Chaos thrives on that set, because that’s when the most incredible art is made," said the actress in a new interview with Variety.
Sweeney also insisted that her Euphoria costars would have called out the issue if they ever felt uncomfortable with Levinson.
"You have me, you have Zendaya, you have all of these very strong-minded, independent women. If we didn’t feel comfortable with something, or we saw something we didn’t like, we’d all speak up," stated the 25-year-old.
Sweeney defended Levinson, saying, "It's hard to see someone completely trashed by the public and the media when no one's actually there."
"We are there, and clearly we are still working on the show, and we are still supportive," mentioned The White Lotus star.
Sweeney explained, "The point is making people uncomfortable, and thinking outside the box. What else is the point of art?"
"For me, I feel so free and confident now. And I’ve found that through Cassie," she added.
Back in 2022, Sweeney discussed about Levinson with The Independent.
"I have never felt like Sam has pushed it on me or was trying to get a nude scene into an HBO Show," she remarked.
