Paul Mescal has recently opened up about a movie that makes him teary-eyed.
The Irish actor shares his thoughts on Hamnet, telling Variety, “I want to be clear that the first hour of this movie is about two people falling in love and raising a family together.”
“The reason that people maybe cry is because the film is successful in making them feel that these two people are really in love,” explains the 29-year-old.
Therefore, the Aftersun actor admits that this movie “makes people cry,” but expresses hope “it makes people laugh and really understand the concept of what it’s to really, truly love.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Paul clarifies that one more movie that made him cry the most is One Battle After Another made me cry.
“I think it’s so brilliantly, brilliantly directed and so well-acted,” mentions the Gladiator II actor.
Gushing over Leonardo DiCaprio, Paul states that he “really felt for Leo’s character. I was just watching him. I really needed him to charge his phone as I didn’t cry over that”.
However, the actor adds, “I think it’s just a brilliantly made piece of art.”
Directed by Chloe Zhao, Paul stars as William Shakespeare in Hamnet, a movie that explores the Bard’s family life and grief.
Earlier in an interview with TODAY, the actor reflects on his experience working in Hamnet movie.
“There’s a lot of love at the centre of it, which I think adds to the heartbreak,” remarks Paul.
Meanwhile, the actor is all set to play guitar left-handed for his role as Paul McCartney in the upcoming biopic on the Beatles star.
