Amanda Seyfried is already imagining what a potential Mamma Mia 3 could look like, and she’s hoping Sydney Sweeney will be part of it.

While speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the 16th Annual Governor Awards on November 16, Seyfried said she’d love to see Sweeney join the franchise, sharing with excitement, “Sydney Sweeney could show up.”

She added that several young actresses have expressed interest in being involved, and she’s completely supportive of the idea.

Seyfried and Sweeney recently worked together on The Housemaid, the Paul Feig-directed thriller set to hit theaters on December 19.

The movie, based on Freida McFadden’s 2022 novel, has already sparked plenty of attention thanks to its dramatic trailer released in September.

Their collaboration seems to have sparked new casting hopes for Seyfried when thinking about the future of the beloved musical series.

Even though Mamma Mia 3 hasn’t been formally announced, Seyfried sounded confident that it’s moving in the right direction, saying, “Maybe I’m just naive, but I’m pretty sure Mamma Mia 3 is a done deal.”

She also shared what she’d want for Sophie if the story continues, and her idea leans straight into family life.

Seyfried said she enjoys portraying a mother on screen and would love to explore Sophie raising her children. She even floated the idea of a long-lost cousin entering the picture, suggesting Sabrina Carpenter could fit that role.

Reflecting on the original films, Seyfried looked back at the core characters who shaped Sophie’s story, including the three possible dads played by Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, and Stellan Skarsgård, and Meryl Streep’s Donna, whose past was explored in the sequel.

Seyfried joked that the who’s-the-father mystery will likely remain unsolved, explaining, “I just know the three dads are going to come back, and we still won’t know who the dad is because it doesn’t matter.”

She added that Donna would still be present “as a ghost,” while Julie Walters and Christine Baranski would return to sing, look glamorous, and bring the familiar energy fans love.

And, of course, it wouldn’t be Mamma Mia without “ABBA… playing” somewhere sunny and tropical.

For now, a third movie hasn’t been confirmed, but Seyfried’s enthusiasm makes it clear she’s ready, and she wouldn’t mind dancing alongside Sydney Sweeney when the time comes.
