The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has finally defended Liam Hemsworth casting amid all the backlash that the actor received from all the Henry Cavill fans.
The Man of Steel actor had been playing the role of Geralt in the popular TV series ever since its inception. Due to some "creative differences", Henry did not return for the new season.
In place of him, the creators cast Liam, which led to massive outrage among the fans of the show, who believed that the 42-year-old British actor should have concluded the show.
In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, Lauren showed support to the Hunger Games actor, by calling him the right fit for the role.
Season 4 of The Witcher shows Geralt aka the White Wolf at his lowest point; physically and emotionally shattered after the defeat by Vilgerfortz as shown in the season 3 finale.
Therefore, when the makers were looking out for actors to replace Cavill, they were watching out for someone who had “emotional depth” to carry out Geralt’s dark phase.
Hissrich added, “So we also knew we wanted to find someone who would be able to bring the gruffness and the sort of action star that we know from Geralt, but to be able to bring this undercurrent of a man who’s lost a lot of things.”
According to the showrunner, the 35-year-old “walked the line of being emotional without being weak, without being fully exposed all the time”.
The Witcher season 4 is set to premiere on Netflix on October 30.
