Golden Globes sparks speculations after debuting new award category

Golden Globes ignited a debate over its credibility after it revealed the nominations for the new best podcast category.

The recognition for podcasts is being accused of being a “money grab” instead, since the nominations appear to be totally supervised by Penske Media, which owns the awards.

While it was revealed that the top 25 eligible podcasts to be considered would be chosen by Luminate, an outside company, a Page Six report revealed that it, too, is owned by Penske.

In light of new information, the transparency of the awards has come into question, which snubbed many popular podcasts in the eligibility list, including Travis and Jason Kelce’s show, New Heights.

“Adding this [podcasting] category is just a money grab,” an industry insider told the outlet.

Many social media users also expressed their distrust of the selection criteria, writing, “wait what was the actual criteria for this?”

While another doubted there are political reasons behind the preferences, writing, “Looking at half these nominees is this a MAGA category?”

A third chimed in, “Golden Globes can no longer be respected.”

Although the eligibility list did not include many popular podcasters, it could be interesting to observe how the new category pans out and who gets to take the award home.
