James Gunn has recently opened up about much-awaited sequel to 2005 cult classic Constantine.
In a new interview, the DC Studios co-head shared about the possibility of a follow-up to the 2005 movie starring Keanu.
“I’ve discussed it on and off. I’ve discussed it with Keanu,” said James on the BobaTalks podcast.
Therefore, the DC Studios co-head continued, “I think that’s a great group of guys. I like all those people a lot.”
However, James admitted, “I have not read any script yet.”
Earlier this year, Keanu disclosed he “pitched” a treatment for the Constantine sequel, telling Inverse, “We’ve along with director Francis Lawrence been trying to make this movie for over a decade.”
“We just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘OK.’ So, we’re going to try and write a script,” pointed out the Matrix actor.
Keanu made the remarks after the director teased a sequel that was “closer than ever”.
In a separate interview with Collider, Francis explained they had a “great idea” for the sequel.
“We have gone through a bunch of the comics over the years and looked at things,” remarked the director.
Francis disclosed that the idea they have for the sequel begins from having the character “in the back of our minds for 20 years and just kind of percolating on ideas, and stories and characters we love, and ideas we love”.
Meanwhile, James shared Constantine is based on the DC Comics/Vertigo Comics’ Hellblazer.
Written by Kevin Brodbin and Frank Cappello and based on a story by Brodbin, Keanu gives life to John Constantine.
