Jeremy Strong on replacing Jessie Eisenberg in ‘Social Network’ sequel

Jeremy Strong weighed in on taking over Jessie Eisenberg’s role as the Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, in upcoming Social Network sequel.

The sequel, Social Reckoning, revolves around young Facebook engineer Frances Haugen (Mikey Madison), who teams up with Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz (Jeremy Allen White) on a risky mission to bring attention to social media’s biggest secret.

During Strong’s appearance at the 2025 Academy Museum Gala, the Succession actor in conversation with The Hollywood Reporter,praised the script.

"It’s one of the great scripts I’ve ever read. It speaks to our time, it touches the third rail of everything happening in our world," he said.

Reflecting on his role, Strong added, "It's a great character - fascinating, complex - and I'm approaching it with great care and empathy and objectivity. I've made two films with Aaron [Sorkin] and third's the charm."

When asked if he had any conversation with Eisenberg about taking over Zuckerberg's role, the Oscar nominee continued, "No, I think that has nothing to do with what I’m going to do."

The upcoming filmis set 17 years after the events of the original film, which starred Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield (co-founder of Facebook, Eduardo Savarin).

Social Reckoning is written and directed by Sorkin and is set to premiere in 2026.
