Stranger Things co-creator Ross Duffer is putting an end to the speculation surrounding the episode lengths of the show’s fifth and final season.
After previously teasing that the season would feel like “eight blockbuster movies,” rumors quickly spread that each episode would run over 90 minutes. However, Duffer has now clarified the actual runtimes for the first four episodes.
In a new Instagram video, Duffer revealed that the season premiere, titled The Crawl, will run for one hour and eight minutes. Episode two, The Vanishing of _____,clocks in at 54 minutes, followed by episode three, The Turnbow Trap, at one hour and six minutes.
Episode four, Sorcerer, will be the longest so far, with a runtime of one hour and 23 minutes.
Details about the final four episodes remain under wraps for now.
Back in August, Duffer gave fans a taste of what to expect. He called The Crawlhis “favorite” and “most eventful first episode since Season 1.”
For the second episode, he teased “the craziest cold open we’ve ever done. One of the sequences we’re most proud of this season.”
Duffer described “The Turnbow Trap” as “the most classic Stranger Things-y episode of the season” and revealed it was directed by legendary filmmaker Frank Darabont, who came out of retirement for the project.
As for episode four, he said it’s “MASSIVE — as big as any finale we’ve ever done, and the most logistically insane shoot of our lives.”
Season five will be released in three parts: Volume 1 on November 26, Volume 2 on Christmas Day, and The Finale on New Year’s Eve.
