Cillian Murphy reveals reason behind his silent nature

Cillian Murphy shared why he keeps a calm and distant persona off-screen and discussed about the importance of being known for his work instead of his private life.

The Inception actor, unlike many Hollywood stars who actively engage in off-screen activities, has no social media presence and rarely attends public events unless necessary. He let his work speak for himself maintaining an enigmatic image.

In an appearance on Sunday Sitdown with Willie Geist, the Oscar winner opened up about why he doesn't seem too interested in becoming a celebrity.

"One of the things I admire about you, Cillian, is your complete disinterest in being a celebrity or a movie star," said the host. "And that you’re an actor and you wanna be known for your work, and you’ve pulled that off."

On asking why it was important for Murphy that people not know much about him, the Irish actor said, "I've always felt that if you wanna try and inhabit somebody convincingly that it seems sensible that there wouldn’t be too much, that people wouldn’t have an impression of you as an individual that would in some way inhibit your ability to do that."

"That’s kind of what I’ve always felt," he continued. "I like the transformative nature of acting. So if you can kinda keep that as background, then I think it allows you more freedom as a performer, you know?"

Murphy’s career began in 1997 and 2005 he had his career breakthrough from his role in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins as Dr. Jonathan Crane/ Scarecrow.

Following his big hit he starred in popular series Peaky Blinders and later won an Oscar for his lead role in Oppenheimer.

Currently his new film, Steve is released in cinemas for limited time from September 19 – October 3, before premiering on Netflix.
