Paul Mescal reflected on his five years of fame and how it changed his life.
Mescal, along with his co-star Jessie Buckley arrived at the Toronto International Film Festival for the premiere of their upcoming film, Hamnet.
"It feels like it's been pretty intense," the actor told People Magazine. "I feel like the last two years I feel like I'm slightly getting my feet with it."
Mescal first made headlines for his work in 2020 hit miniseries Normal People, which marked his second-onscreen role.
Since than the star has received an Oscar nomination for his performance in 2022’s Aftersun and has starred in critically acclaimed films such as The Lost Daughter and All of Us Strangers and the Ridley Scott's blockbuster Gladiator II.
"I've been very lucky that I've been on projects with people that I deeply admire and also have experience," he said crediting Emily Watson as his mentor.
Having worked with Watson before in the 2022 movie God's Creatures, Mescal said, "There’s no person who I think has navigated his career better than someone like Emily."
He added, "It's just true, I've had these incredible figures that I respect but also who know what I've gone through. So, I've essentially had my hand held by people that I deeply admire for those five years."
His latest project Hamnethas sparked discussion about his second Academy Award nomination.
In the film Mescal stars as the legendary playwright William Shakespeare, Buckley stars as his wife Agnes, Watson plays Mescal's onscreen mother as Mary Shakespeare and child actor Jacobi Jupe as William and Agnes son Hamnet.
The official synopsis reads, "The powerful love story that inspired the creation of Shakespeare’s timeless masterpiece, Hamlet."
Following Hamnet's premiere in Toronto, the movie is set to release in selected theatres on November 27.
