Jenna Ortega has recently reflected on the impact of social media on today’s generation.
The Wednesday star noted that her Netflix show’s upcoming second season was able to connect with younger audience because it explore the themes of “where we find our sense of community now” in the era of social media.
“I wasn’t around in the ’70s, but I hear stories of people knocking on their neighbours’ doors and the bikes going all throughout the city, and just expecting to meet someone at a certain time on a certain location,” recalled the 22-year-old while speaking to BBC.
However, Jenna believed this to be a distant thought for the young people in this day and age.
Miller’s Girl actress noted that nowadays people don’t talk to each other in person, instead “they are interacting and finding their community online” which she said “can be very isolationg”.
Elsewhere in the interview, Jenna pointed out the downside of social media and that’s to expose people to “so many voices and so many opinions”.
The Beetlejuice Beetlejuice actress continued, “Much more than you would typically be, or that humans are kind of meant to be exposed to.”
Therefore, Jenna mentioned, “It's harder to find a sense of self.”
“Young people are struggling to find, 'What makes my voice stand out? What is it about me in this world and this society today that gives me a sense of purpose or control or authority?’” added the Scream VI actress.
Meanwhile, Wednesday season two, part one will premiere on August 6, whereas part two is going to release on September 3.
