Salma Hayek gushes on 'Dogma' on movie's25th anniversary

Salma Hayek is reflecting on a role that still means a lot to her, even 25 years later. On Friday, June 6, she took to Instagram to celebrate the anniversary of Dogma, the 1999 religious satire directed by Kevin Smith, where she played the memorable muse, Serendipity.

Sharing clips and behind-the-scenes moments from the film, Hayek started off with a fun throwback video of her character set to New Edition’s Candy Girl.

In the caption, she expressed her appreciation for the experience, writing, “It’s been 25 years since Dogma hit theatres — and what a wild, unforgettable ride it was. Playing Serendipity was a gift I’ll always treasure: a character full of fire, wit, and chaos in the best way.”

She also thanked the team behind the film, adding, “Grateful to thatkevinsmith for this one-of-a-kind film, and to my brilliant co-stars — Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Chris Rock, and the irreplaceable Alan Rickman.

From yesterday, Dogma is back on the big screen for a limited time… and I still can’t believe I was part of something so bold.”

Kevin Smith responded in the comments, warmly writing, “Bless you, Muse! Thanks for helping me make my dopey dream come true a quarter century ago!”

Originally released in 1999, Dogma starred Damon and Affleck as fallen angels trying to find a loophole back into heaven — even if it meant putting the fate of humanity at risk.

The film developed a cult following over the years for its daring approach to themes of faith and redemption.

Smith, who has stayed connected to the project over the decades, recently told PEOPLE that he’s been “whimsying about a sequel for the last six months.”

He explained that his new vision is coming from the mindset of “somebody who doesn’t have that faith anymore.”

With the film returning to theaters for a limited run, Smith is finally seeing the kind of audience reaction he always hoped for.
