Tom Hanks gets honest about his daughter’s bombshell memoir

Tom Hanks has recently shared his thoughts about his daughter E.A. Hanks' memoir, The 10: A Memoir of Family and the Open Road.

Tom’s daughter revealed that her mother, actress Samantha Lewes, was emotionally and physically abusive in her new book.

While speaking up about abuse allegations at the premiere of The Phoenician Scheme, the Forrest Gump star told Access Hollywood, “I’m not surprised that my daughter had the wherewithal as well as the curiosity to examine this thing.”

“I think she was incredibly honest about… We all come from checkered, cracked lives, all of us,” mentioned the 68-year-old.

Tom further said that his daughter “is a knockout, always has been”.

“If you’ve had kids, you realise that you see who they are when they’re about six weeks old,” remarked the Asteroid City actor.

In the memoir, E.A., whose real name is Elizabeth Anne, shared her experience of “emotional violence and physical violence” from her mother, whose real name was Susan Dillingham.

For the unversed, Tom and Susan tied the knot in January 1978, and their divorce was finalised in 1987.

It is pertinent to mention that Susan got primary custody of the kids while they were permitted to visit Tom during the designated weekend and summer.

"I would visit my dad and stepmother (and soon enough my younger half-brothers) on the weekends and during summers, but from 5 to 14, years filled with confusion, violence, deprivation, and love,” wrote Tom’s daughter in an excerpt previously obtained by PEOPLE.
