Michael B. Jordan has recently revealed how Denzel Washington played a major role in his blossoming career.
In a new interview with The New York Magazine, Michael shared that Denzel’s valuable career advice helped him create his demand in Hollywood.
He asked Michael to stay offline to avoid being overexposed as he put it bluntly, ““Why would they pay to see you on a weekend if they see you all week for free?”
While discussing the success of Ryan Coogler’s Sinners movie, the Creed III actor opened up that he actively “doesn’t post much on social media or talk to the press about personal life” to create a demand as a movie star.
The strategy seemed to be working as Michael’s new vampire thriller earned $350 million at the worldwide box office.
The actor shared that he’d been working towards making his image as a movie star which is why he shifted from television to movies.
“I was really, really, really unsure of what my career was going to be [12 years ago],” remarked the 38-year-old.
Michael continued, “Am I a TV actor? Where am I going? And I was like, ‘Man, I just want an independent movie.’”
“I can show what I can do, and I just need to know if I could carry a movie or not, if I could be a lead,” explained The Wire star.
Interestingly, Michael opened up that he met Ryan for the first time for a Fruitvale Station movie and after that there’s no looking back.
Meanwhile, the Black Pantheractor added that he often uses Instagram, where he rarely posts outside of press tours for his movie projects.
