Nadra blocks 136,000 ID cards

ISLAMABAD: The National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) on Wednesday told the Sub-committee of the Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms that it had blocked 136,000 Identity cards that had been tampered with.

The sub-committee met on Wednesday with its Chairman Minister for Climate Change Zahid Hamid presiding over. Nadra officials gave the briefing on blocked national ID cards.During the meeting, the Nadra official verified existence of 15,247 dual national ID card while the process of scrutiny of 9,000 dubious national ID cards was in hand.

The Nadra officials also told the committee that scrutiny of 72,000 dubious citizenship holders in the country was also being made.Following the briefing of Nadra, the Sub-committee directed the Nadra to complete the process of blocking the fake, dubious and tampered with national ID cards.

While discussing the biometric system and electronic voting machines, the sub-committee was informed that the Election Commission of Pakistan has assured the experimental usage of electronic voting machines in any bye-elections after the month of September.
