FAISALABAD: China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will usher a new era of progress and prosperity in the entire region and help boost trade between the countries, said President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday.
The economic corridor was a “gift” from China and “we will expeditiously accomplish this gigantic project by removing all the hurdles, he said while addressing a ceremony held in connection with All Pakistan Textile Exporters Association’s Excellence Award at a local hotel.
He said the practice of criticising the government and national institutions on the basis of lies, deception and dishonesty as well as the politics of meaningless allegations should come to an end so that the country could be put on the path to progress.
The president said the decision to import LNG for addressing the issue of energy was no less than a blessing, adding that the criticism and allegations were meaningless and absolutely wrong.
He said there was no corruption in the Nandipur Power Project, adding that “the people, who do not do anything, try to stop others from working.” The president said some people had levelled baseless allegations against him as well.
He said in order to get the country out of problems, it was imperative that the people should stand by the government, as he also called for promoting tax culture and fundamental changes in lifestyle to discourage unnecessary use of electricity.
On the occasion, Mamnoon asked the exporters to take advantage of the business-friendly policies of the government and explore new markets for their products. He said the government was trying its best to overcome energy shortage and had launched undertaken a number of projects.
Earlier, Pakistan Textile Exporters Association Chairman Asghar Ali, in his welcoming address, appreciated the steps taken by the government in formulating business-friendly policies and highlighted the issues faced by the textile industry.
Later, the president gave away granted awards to 40 best textile exporters of the country. The president also addressed the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Achievement Awards ceremony where he urged the nation to select honest and truthful leadership and reject those who had deprived the country of progress and created hurdles in the way of development.
