- Arijit Singh on Pakistani singers working in India
Pakistan’s super-star singer Atif Aslam, who recently turned 33, has had a long, colourful history of singing tunes for Bollywood films. In fact, several of his Bollywood songs have become phenomenal hits.
In recent memory, only one singer is repeatedly compared to Atif and that’s Arijit Singh who made a name for himself after singing for films like like Aashiqui 2, Roy and more recently Dilwale.
Though both men possess their own unique trademark styles, it is heartening to note that at a time when Pakistani singers, be it Atif Aslam or Ghulam Ali, have had their shows cancelled across the border due to hate-fueled controversies, Singh is neither threatened by the presence of Pakistani singers in India nor does he wish for them to depart from the Bollywood scene in entirety.
When asked about Pakistani singers working in India, Singh commented, “It is totally absurd and a weird thing to say. I am an Indian singer, I sing not just in Hindi but in Urdu as well. Aren’t we huge fans of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Ghulam Ali? The place is not important when it comes to music. All this is nonsense. Music is beyond boundaries.”
Well said, we totally approve.
