ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif on Tuesday said the nation stood united in war against terrorism as witnessed in the face of Indian aggression in 1965.

He stated this while chairing the third meeting of the committee constituted by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for making preparations regarding celebration of the 50th anniversary of Defence Day on September 6 this year.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcast and National Heritage, Senator Pervaiz Rashid and Minister for SAFRON, Abdul Qadir Baloch were also present in the meeting.

The Defence Minister said that war against terrorism should be viewed as continuation of the war of 1965 as the enemy in ‘another form’ was still carrying out its ‘aggressive and hegemonic designs’.

“We are still in phase of war and our valiant armed forces are fighting heroically to secure our tomorrow,” he added.

Asif said the whole nation would commemorate the 50th anniversary of Defence Day in a befitting manner and will pay homage to the soldiers who defended the motherland and were still ‘standing like a rock’ against the enemies of state.

Earlier, Senator Rashid briefed the committee regarding the steps taken by his ministry to project and promote the valour and courage of the heroes of 1965 war.

The meeting was also attended by Secretary Cabinet Raja Hasan Abbas, Secretary Defence Lt Gen (retd) Muhammad Alam Khattak, DG PBC Syed Muhammad Imran Gardezi, MD PTV Muhammad Malik and
PIO PID Rao Tehsin Ali Khan.
