MINGORA: The District Development Advisory Committee (DDAC) Thursday approved Rs404 million for various uplift projects in the district.The funds were approved during a meeting of the committee held with DDAC Chairman and Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Fazal Hakeem Khan in the chair.Heads of various government departments attended the meeting. The meeting approved Rs200 million for the cleanliness and construction of embankments of a seasonal stream, Rs100 million for construction of a degree college and Rs70 million for other 54 small scale projects.

Cop arrested for taking bribe

PESHAWAR: The Muharrir of Paharipura Police Station has been arrested for taking bribe of Rs10,000 from a complainant after his stolen vehicle was recovered. A police official said the police constable was arrested after he took Rs10,000 from a complainant while returning him the vehicle. He said the accused policeman was booked under section 155 (c) of Police Order.The official said the ASP Paharipura Police Station arrested the Muharrir on the directive of the SSP, Mian Saeed.

50 suspects held in DI Khan search

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The police arrested 50 suspects, including an Afghan national, during a search operation in various parts of the district, police said on Thursday. They said the police launched a search operation against anti-social elements. They arrested suspected persons and recovered three pistols and several cartridges from them. The police also arrested an Afghan national for illegally staying in the district. Meanwhile, the local administration visited 99 educational institutions in the district to check the security arrangements put in place by the schools administration. The administration directed 92 educational institutions to further strengthen the security arrangements.

7 held in child murder case

BATKHELA: The Malakand Levies arrested seven suspected persons in connection with the murder case of a child in Dheri Jolegram area on Thursday, official sources said.The sources said that unidentified persons had molested a five-year-old Abbas and then thrown him in a field in a critical condition on Wednesday. He succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The victim family had not got registered the case against anyone. On the directives of Deputy Commissioner Agha Muhammad Ali Abbas, the Malakand Levies arrested seven persons on the basis of suspicion and started an investigation.

Partridge shooting season to end on Feb 1

PESHAWAR: Wildlife Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Thursday said the partridge shooting season for the year will be closed after February 1. Through a communiqué, the department directed the hunters to abide by the Wildlife Hunting Rules and regulations in letter and spirit. “Violators could be punished with fine and imprisonment up to 2 years under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Act and the rules made there under,” it added.

Extortion case registered

MARDAN: A case was registered against two persons for allegedly demanding extortion money from a resident in Sheikh Maltoon Town, police said. Imran Khan told police that Usman Bahadur and Imran Ali, residents of Nawan Killay Toru, allegedly called him on his cellphone and demanded Rs0.8 million as extortion money. The police registered a case against the accused.
