Tent pegging contest gets underway at F-9 Park

The two-day annual tent pegging competition being organised by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) was inaugurated at F-9 Park here on Thursday. CDA Member Environment Syed Mustafain Kazmi was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony.
The CDA has planned different cultural and sports events particularly traditional sports competitions for providing healthy entertainment to the residents of Islamabad and to highlight the diverse culture of the country through these events in the federal capital. On this occasion, Member Environment said that Pakistan is the country blessed with diverse culture and CDA being custodian of the federal capital is committed to promote folk games and traditions by arranging traditional games competition in the city.
He said that tent pegging is a marvellous combination of power, daringness and expertise which has not been only appreciated by the residents of Islamabad but also by the foreigners and diplomats residing in Islamabad during the ongoing spring.
CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal has tasked the Member Administration and Estate, Amer Ali Ahmed to pay special focus for arranging traditional sports and folk games to instil nationalism in the residents of federal capital.
Member Administration and Estate, Amer Ali Ahmed said that Sports and Culture Directorate of the authority has planned to organise different sports tournaments which include hockey tournament, cricket, football and shooting ball tournaments.
He said that in order to promote traditional games, CDA has planned to organise Tent Pegging, ‘Kabaddi’, tug of war and other such completions to promote these games at National Level. He said that in addition to sports events, the Authority has also planned to organize cultural shows, Sufi nights, folk nights, artisans ‘Mela’ and other various
entertainment programmes to depict different segments of cultural heritage of the country.
The event being organised with the collaboration of Pakistan is being participated by 80 renowned clubs and riders from all over the country.
The event includes single, double and four Men-Team categories competition. Different prizes will be distributed amongst the riders and teams at the concluding ceremony. A large number of spectators from the twin cities, diplomats and foreigners residing in the federal capital watched the event on its first day and hailed the professional skills of the riders.
