LAHORE
The Lahore High Court Friday suspended operation of Inland Revenue Department’s notices issued to all banks asking for account details of a man/petitioner. Syed Naveed Amjad Andrabi also challenged the notices issued to him under Section 176 of Income Tax Ordinance, 2001. The petitioner is also a practicing lawyer. Representing the petitioner, Advocate Taffazul Rizvi argued that under the ordinance, the Inland Revenue Department only had the authority to seek information which was “leviable”. He said there were no proceedings pending against the petitioner nor he had been selected for any audit.
