Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting here on Thursday which reviewed various proposals for reforms in police system, change of Thana culture and improvement of efficiency of police.
Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that protection of life and property of the people and redressing their grievances was the prime responsibility of police. He said that police would have to come up to the new demands and public aspirations. He said that the public grievances should be redressed in police stations. He said that controlling of crimes and rooting out of criminal elements was the basic duty of police.
He said people were the pivot of proposed reforms in police system whose grievances should be redressed in police stations. He said that strict system of accountability of police was also necessary. He said that useful proposals had been presented for improvement in police system and directed that final recommendations should be submitted in the light of these proposals. He said that cabinet committee should review these proposals from every aspect and submit final recommendations within seven days. Various proposals were presented in the meeting regarding reforms in the police system and were considered in detail.
Greater Iqbal Park: Shahbaz Sharif has said the Greater Iqbal Park Project is of vital importance for highlighting Pakistan Movement and its significance.
The CM was chairing a meeting on Thursday, which reviewed the matters about Greater Iqbal Park Project. Addressing the meeting, the CM said work should be carried out speedily on the project. He said that no compromise will be made on this project and this project will be state-of-the-art. He said a separate authority will be set up for the implementation of the project. The CM said a museum will also be set up with regard to Tehreek-e-Pakistan in which pictures of heroes of Pakistan Movement will be displayed while special programmes will be held for highlighting the aim and objectives of Pakistan Movement.
He said maximum recreational facilities will be provided to people under Greater Iqbal Park Project.
He said a train and a buggy will also be operated in the park while separate place will be allocated for children for playing. He said an open air gym will be set up in the park. The CM said all matters regarding the project will be outsourced and third party audit will be compulsory for ensuring transparency and high standard. He said Greater Iqbal Park Project will not only play an important role in highlighting the culture and historical heritage of Lahore but will also help in informing the new generation about the importance of Pakistan Movement and the efforts and services of national heroes. He said landscaping of the entire project in modern and old style will be carried out while a lake will also be developed in Greater Iqbal Park Project. Turk experts while appreciating master planning of Greater Iqbal Park Project described it as splendid. They said the CM evolved a glorious project for transferring the historical heritage of Pakistan to the new generations and the vision of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif regarding this great project is laudable.
Turk experts also assured all out cooperation with regard to Greater Iqbal Park Project. Chairman Lahore Transport Company Kh Ahmed Hassan, Vice Chairman, PHA, Iftikhar Ahmed, DG, Lahore Walled City Project, Secretary Housing, Commissioner, Lahore, DCO, DG LDA, DG PHA, MD NESPAK and Turk experts attended the meeting.
