A 60-year-old man in Shalimar police custody died under mysterious circumstances on Sunday.
The police had arrested the victim, Sarwar, and his two sons Arif and Mehran from Sheikhupura six days back in a theft case registered in 2014. Sarwar and his two sons were on remand. The victim’s family accused the police of torturing him to death during interrogation. The police claimed that Sarwar had died of cardiac seizure. Police shifted the body to morgue for autopsy.
GUARD SHOT DEAD: A 42-year-old security guard was shot dead in a housing society in City Raiwind area. Police said the victim identified as Pervez was performing duty in a housing society when some unidentified people shot him to death. The deceased, Pervez, hailed from Azad Kashmir. Police said it was yet to be established whether the victim had been murdered over an old enmity or he had lost his life at the hands of some robbers on resistance.
KITE MAKERS, FLYERS ARRESTED: Despite the ban on kite flying in the provincial capital, partial violation of the law was witnessed in densely populated areas. Enthusiasts of the sport were spotted flying kites in various parts of the city. Areas where citizens violated the ban include Millat Park, Nawan Kot, Ichhara, Mustafabad, Lohari, Kot Lakhpat, Mozang, Shadbagh, Badami Bagh, Misri Shah, Lower Mall, Gawalmandi, Ravi Road, Shera Kot, and Iqbal Town.
Meanwhile, Lahore police arrested dozens of kite manufacturers and flyers during a crackdown. Police carried out crackdown against the kite manufacturers and flyers in various parts of the city and arrested 60 people on charges of making and flying kites. Batapur police arrested three persons and recovered kites and strings from their possession. Bhatti Gate police recovered 15,000 kites and 200 strings from a godown. Shalimar police arrested two children on charges of kite flying. Iqbal Town Division police arrested around seven kite manufacturers and flyers.
ROBBERS INJURE YOUTH: A youth was shot and wounded by robbers. A robber was caught by the locals on the spot and handed over to Shalimar police. The injured youth was admitted to a local hospital where his condition was said to be critical. Police said some robbers were on their way back after looting when they spotted the police and opened firing. As a result, a youth got wounds. Locals managed to catch one of the robbers, manhandled him and handed over him to police.
MAN CRUSHED TO DEATH: A 21-year-old youth was killed by a train in Kot Lakhpat area. The man was identified as Haider Ali of Pakpattan. Police said Haider was crossing rail tracks when he came under the wheel of a moving train, resulting into his instant death. Police shifted the body to morgue.
