LAHORE TWO children died when a tractor-trolley loaded with bricks rammed into the wall of a house in the Mallipura Shafiqabad area Sunday. The dead children were identified as Hassan, 1, and Sher Ali, 8, while the injured child was identified as Fahad. Police said a speeding tractor-trolley loaded with bricks hit the wall of a house, causing it to collapse on three children. On being informed, the rescuers rushed to the scene, pulled the trapped children out of the debris and took them to a local hospital where Hassan and Sher Ali died. The condition of Fahad was also said to be precarious. The driver fled the scene. Police shifted the bodies to morgue and registered a case against the unidentified driver. PRISONER DIES: A 43-year-old prisoner of Camp Jail died of cardiac arrest here Sunday. Police said Naseer, who was jailed for murder and other crimes, suffered a severe heart attack. He was given medical aid but he expired. Police shifted the body to morgue. Meanwhile, a 24-year-old youth died of excessive use of drugs in the Gulshan Ravi area Sunday. Muzammil of Aqsa Colony, Shahdara worked in an embroidery factory in the Gulshan Ravi area. Police said Muzammil had injected himself with some intoxicated substance at his workplace, resulting into his death. Police handed over the body to the family. 703 arrested: Lahore police arrested 703 accused of wall chalking, misuse of loud speaker and publication of hate literature. Police started a cleanup operation under National Action Plan and seized 133 loud speakers, amplifiers, books, pamphlets and CDs containing hate literature from them. DIG operations Dr Haider Ashraf said strict action would be taken in case of any violation of National Action Plan. Meanwhile, Punjab Highway Patrol arrested 28 criminals along with three proclaimed offenders and two court absconders, proclaimed offenders Aslam, Ismaeel and Umar Draz and court absconders Fiaz Ahmad and Sabar Hussain. PHP also arrested 20 criminals and recovered 420kg unhygienic meat, four riffles, three repeaters, three pistols and 223 bullets, and 29 litre liquor from their possession. PERFORMANCE: DG Rescue Punjab Dr Rizwan Naseer carried out a performance review of emergency operations in all 36 districts of Punjab to ensure uniform standard of the service and smooth emergency services delivery without any discrimination of cast, colour and creed. The emergency data showed that 50,833 victims of emergencies were rescued by Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) while conducting 49,738 rescue operations in January all over the Punjab, with average response time of seven minutes.
