Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Senator Siraj-ul-Haq has urged citizens of Karachi to come out and cast their vote in the local government election scheduled to be held on December 5 to defeat those who won seats again and again through bogus ballots and flawed voters’ lists.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters Idara Noor-e-Haq on Wednesday, Haq expressed his apprehensions over pre and post-poll rigging.
He demanded from the government and the Election Commission of Pakistan to deploy army or Rangers personnel in and outside polling stations.
He was of the view that elections were a source of change in the society but at the same time he said there were question marks over transparency of the upcoming local government election in the city.
He alleged that all corrupt elements including the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) had reached an agreement to rig the election.
However, he said, positive political forces were not afraid of the fight ahead because people’s massive support for them would foil all conspiracies to win the polls by force.
The JI chief demanded from the army and the Election Commission to play their due role to foil the conspiracies of rigging the local government elections and expressed the hope that the scenario of 2013 election will not repeat itself in Karachi.
The Karachi organiser for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Ali Zaidi, was also present on the occasion and while answering a question he said his party had only made an alliance with the JI in Karachi.
He said those claiming to be the owner of Karachi had bestowed nothing on the city except lawlessness, corruption and terror. He said if given a chance, the JIT-PTI alliance will change the fate of the city.
