The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) plan to bring in the party’s central leadership to boost the electoral campaigns of its local government candidates was set in motion as Murad Saeed, known to many as Imran Khan’s blue-eyed boy, toured the city’s Pashtun-dominated neighbourhoods on Sunday.
Saeed, an elected Member of National Assembly from the Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, visited Muslimabad and Dawood Chowrangi, two Pashtun-populated union committees of District Malir, accompanied by PTI Karachi Organiser Ali Zaidi and Inayat Khattak, the party organiser for the district.
In both areas, he addressed electoral rallies of party candidates Khalilur Rehman Jadoon, running in Muslimabad, and Tawoos Khan in the Dawood Chowrangi area.
The rallies were reasonably well-attended as locals welcomed Saeed with party flags and portraits of Imran Khan.
Urging people, especially young men and women, to support PTI if they want to change the country’s fate, Saeed said his party was the only political force actually capable of eliminating political terrorism from Karachi.
“Our party’s struggle is aimed at changing the outdated and corrupt system still enforced on the people of Pakistan and it is the people themselves who can help us in our mission,” he said.
The PTI’s candidates in Karachi are pleased over the party’s decision to invite the central leadership, including chairman Imran Khan, to rally support. Khan is expected to visit Karachi later this week and party leaders said that he would be addressing major rallies in different parts of the city.
Speaking to The News, the Muslimabad contender Jadoon said Saeed’s visit to the impoverished neighbourhoods had helped rouse party workers and constituents. “After this, Imran Khan’s visit will have an even greater impact on the electoral campaigns of all PTI candidates in Karachi,” said Jadoon.
