Police to finalise SOP for Chinese nationals’ security soon

The Sindh police high-ups held a meeting on Friday to review the security measures for the Chinese nationals expected to visit the province in connection with the Pak-China Economic Corridor project.
Rapid Response Force DIG Dr Amin Yosufzai, who has been nominated as the focal person this purpose, briefed IGP Ghulam Hyder Jamali and other participants of the meeting that he had already placed 500 elite police commandos at his disposal for the security of the Chinese nationals in the province.
He further said the draft of a standard operating procedure (SOP) had been prepared for the security of the Chinese nationals already present in Sindh as well as those who would be visiting the province for the project.
The IGP formed a committee headed by additional IGP special branch to review and submit the final SOP within a week time.
The Rapid Response Force DIG, the Karachi Police Administration DIG and the ranges DIGs would be its other members.
The committee was also directed to collect the views and recommendations of all the range DIGs before the submission of the final SOP.
Jamali directed the Sindh Reserve Police DIG to immediately place 500 more cops at the disposal of Rapid Response Force DIG for the security of Chinese nationals so that the total strength could be raised to a 1,000.
He also directed Logistics AIG to compile a list of the material required to provide logistical support for making the security plan successful.
It was decided to appoint at least 2,000 retired armed forces personnel on a contract basis to cope up with the shortage of manpower in the police force and a summary would be sent to the government soon for this purpose.
Besides, a provincial foreigners security cell will be set up at the Central Police Office and districts foreigners security cells in each district of the province to ensure the security for around 1,600 Chinese nationals already working on 125 different projects as well those who are Chinese nationals expected to arrive.
“Once the SOP is finalised and issued, the consul general of China and administration heads in various projects should be informed about it so that coordination can be ensured,” the IGP said.
The provincial police chief directed the district SSPs to plan periodical visits to the sites of different ongoing projects where Chinese nationals were working and review the security measures there.
The meeting was held at the Central Police Office and was attended by the additional IGP Special Branch; the DIGs of Headquarters, the Rapid Response Force, the Sindh Reserve Police, Administration and Karachi range and the AIGs of the Foreigners Security Cell, Logistics and Finance.
