KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Thursday sacked a BS-16 officer of the Inland Revenue posted at the Regional Tax Office (RTO)-II Karachi for corruption and misconduct by breaching jurisdiction orders and harassing a taxpayer through issuing order of Rs3.7 billion.
According to a notification issued by the revenue authority, disciplinary action was initiated against Afrasiab Hashmi, IRO Regional Tax Office -II Karachi on the charges of inefficiency, misconduct and corruption.
The inquiry committee of the revenue authority confirmed the charges leveled against the officer.
Therefore, Member Admin, Federal Board of Revenue being the authority approved major penalty of dismissal from service.
The findings of the inquiry revealed that the officer had not lawful jurisdiction over the case, which he audited.
Furthermore, the officer passed the order against the taxpayer in a hastly manner and completed the scrutiny / monitoring of the withholding taxes, involving expenditure of Rs3.7 billion within a few days. The inquiry also noted the glaring abnormalities in the order passed by the officer.
