NOWSHERA: Rejecting the local government re-election schedule in Ramazan, the political parties Sunday asked the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to arrange re-polling on 89 polling stations after the holy month. The Election Commission of Pakistan had announced re-polling on 89 polling stations on July 5.
Speaking at a press conference, the leaders of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl, Awami National Party, Pakistan People’s Party, Awami Workers Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) asked the government to change the schedule as it was not possible to undertake such a mega activity in Ramazan.
“All the parties want re-election be conducted after the Eidul Fitr,” said Mian Iftikhar Hussain, secretary general of ANP. Meanwhile, the losing candidates in Gandheri Union Council asked the ECP to conduct re-election in the union council as the polling officials were hand in glove with the ANP candidates. Speaking at a press conference here, Taj Khan, Mufti Gul Halim, Fazal Wahab, Haji Irshad and Wajid alleged that Returning Officer Shoaib along with other staff had rigged the May 30 elections. They alleged that the polling staff supported the ANP candidates.
