LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan alleged on Friday that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was the most corrupt person and had occupied power through rigging.
He further alleged that he accepted bribe from former al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden to topple the PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto’s government in 1990s.
He said General Durrani gave an affidavit in the court that he gave Nawaz Sharif Rs3.5 million to topple Benazir’s government. “I have everything in Pakistan and give tax on every penny I have. My money is not outside Pakistan like that of Nawaz Sharif,” said the PTI chairman.
He said the Awami Muslim League (AML) leader Sheikh Rasheed was a witness to it that Nawaz Sharif took money from the Gulf countries for his election campaigns.
The PTI chairman finished the election campaign of NA-122 and PP-147 on Friday night on an aggressive note against the rival PML-N, warning that his party would not let the government function if the by-elections were rigged like the general elections of 2013.
“The ruling party, foreseeing its defeat on October 11, will make all efforts to steal the election. It cannot win the by-polls without rigging,” he said while addressing a public meeting comprising thousands of charged workers including women and children near the Mozang Chungi. He was accompanied by PTI candidates Abdul Aleem Khan, Shoaib Siddiqi and other top leaders including Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Awami Muslim League (AML) leader Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad, and others.
Imran said the sun was setting on the PML-N. He said the government thought they would easily win the NA-122 election, but the PTI had unleashed its secret weapon. “Aleem Khan was accused of land-grabbing, but the entire PML-N is full of land-grabbers,” Imran said.
Imran asked the PTI workers, especially women and the youth, to keep a vigilant eye to stop rigging attempts in the by-elections by reaching the polling stations early. He alleged that the Punjab Police were working as the militant wing of the PML-N, with which it was brutalising and harassing the opponent party’s supporters.
Criticising Nawaz Sharif, the PTI chief said the PM makes his cabinet members to attack him. “Everything that I have is in Pakistan. I won’t run like Nawaz Sharif to Jeddah,” he added.
About the traitor allegations levelled by Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid against him, Imran said: “Mian Nawaz Sharif, hold your courtiers back from accusing me of being a traitor.
“The PTI is the only party which collects funds from people and gets a proper audit of it and posts the same on the party’s website. I am open to accountability to all of my party workers,” he added.
Imran hit back at PM Nawaz Sharif by saying that the real traitors were those who stole the public money and took it abroad for investment. Imran asserted that he had not a single penny invested abroad, and asked what kind of a prime minister was there who shifted billions of rupees plundered from the public exchequer to foreign lands. He alleged that the prime minister’s son lived in London in a flat worth 700 million rupees.
“I demand of the prime minister to unveil the details of his family assets worth 200 billion rupees in London. The son of the premier is living in 700 million rupees house in London.
“The ruling family should make public its assets abroad. My life and death is with Pakistan. I will never flee to Jeddah or London in the face of tough times,” Imran said.
The charged crowd was raising slogans and holding party flags and wearing dresses and caps of party flag colours.
Imran said the enthusiasm of Lahorites clearly showed that the PML-N had lost the Oct-11 by-polls. He said he had seen the PTI victory in the eyes of the NA-122 constituency voters during the election campaign. “The nation knows that I am the man who got them international trophies and rendered spotless social services and challenged the status quo political forces. They know who the real traitors are,” he added.
Imran said he earned money abroad but all his assets were in the country and he had no assets on any foreign land. “Mian Sahib you are a corrupt person and you and all your close aides are tax-evaders. You earn in billions and pay only a few thousand as tax,” he said, adding that he (Imran) was a true democrat and Nawaz Sharif was Mughal-e-Azam.
AML leader Sh Rasheed and PTI candidate Abdul Aleem Khan also delivered hard-hitting speeches against the ruling party leadership and accused them of being corrupt, liars and cheats, who had been cheating the innocent masses with fake development schemes, and subjecting them to huge taxes on the behest of the IMF and World Bank.
Aleem Khan said he was being called a grabber because he had “grabbed the hearts of people”. He said Ayaz Sadiq never did anything for the area. He said he got the roads and streets constructed in this area, and all development works were done during his era. He said the people of NA-122 were shutting their doors on Ayaz Sadiq now.
