KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Information Sharjeel Inam Memon said on Sunday had there been no power crisis in the port city, the deaths due to the heatwave would have been 50 percent less as he blamed K-Electric and federal government for the tragedy.
He said this during his visit to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. He blamed the K-Electric and federal government for the overwhelmingly large number of deaths due to heatstroke and related illnesses during the past week.
“If the uninterrupted power had been supplied to households in Karachi, the number of deaths could be less than 50 percent. Most of the casualties were of elderly persons and women who died at their residences due to power outages and breakdowns”, he said while talking to newsmen at the ASH.
Accompanied by Karachi Administrator Roshan Shaikh, Municipal Commissioner Samiuddin Siddiqui, Deputy Commissioner Central Afzal Zaidi and others, Sharjeel Memon said even the K-Electric had accepted that their transmission system was faulty.
