Senior citizens, specially retired civil servants, have been allocated about 20 to 25 percent of their basic pension as medical allowance which has been frozen since 2010. Moreover, in-service people are given better treatment at government hospitals because of their influence and contacts.
The government should increase and unfreeze the medical allowance of senior citizens. Special directives should be issued to government hospitals to give special attention to old pensioners and allocate a percentage of good quality rooms for their hospitalisation.
