Extending the New Year greetings to the people of Sindh and the entire Pakistan, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah ordered on Tuesday the withdrawal of the ban on pillion riding and directed the police and administration not to harass the people peacefully participating in the New Year celebrations.

The Sindh home department had earlier issued a notification to ban pillion riding, carrying fire arms and aerial firing on New Year night.

The city administration and police had also blocked with containers certain roads leading to Sea View. The CM directed the administration to remove the containers and open the roads for smooth flow of traffic. However, he directed them to manage the traffic by allowing only one-way traffic on some of the roads.

The CM strictly directed the police not to harass anybody and let the people celebrate New Year with new hopes, peace of mind and traditional ways of enjoyment. He, however, urged the people of Karachi, particularly the youngsters, not to behave irresponsibly or else the law would take its course.

He also asked the people to pray for the prosperity of Pakistan, national unity and strengthening of democracy in the country.

Earlier, the CM presided over a meeting of the Thar Coal & Energy Board at the CM House and vowed to help prospective investors in Thar for coal and energy projects.

On the direction of the CM, the Karachi commissioner announced in a statement that the ban on pillion riding had been lifted. He requested the citizens to behave maturely and celebrate New Year without violating the law. He, however, added that the ban was still intact on the display of weapons and one-wheeling.
