Rangers arrest 11 suspects in raids

The paramilitary force announced the arrests of 11 suspected criminals, including dacoits, in raids conducted in various parts Karachi on Saturday.

The spokesman for the Sindh Rangers said soldiers conducted raids in Malir, Khokharapar, Sharifabad, Baldia, Saeedabad, Awami Colony, Docks and Shershah areas, and arrested Muhammad Yaseen, Shan, Gulzar Ahmed, Rehmatullah, Naveed, Muhammad Hanif, Amjad, Muhammad Husnain, Abdul Hafeez alias Gujjar, Abdul Jalil and Mehboob Ali.

The suspects were alleged to be involved in a number of snatchings, drug peddling and robbery cases. Weapons, looted items and narcotics were said to have been seized from the possession of the men, who were handed over to police for further legal action.

Action by customs

Customs preventive officials seized betel nuts and other items during a raid in an old city area. The spokesman for the customs said that acting on information, officials carried out a raid on a godown in the Joria Bazaar and discovered a huge quantity of contraband items worth about Rs50 million. The seized items included tons of betel nuts and cartons of packets of cigarettes.
