Nawaz undergoes multiple tests at hospital
LAHORE: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz visited the Jinnah Hospital on Saturday to enquire after former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
Nawaz underwent multiple tests at the hospital, including echocardiogram (echo) and electrocardiogram (ECG) while a new multidisciplinary medical board has also been formed by the hospital that will have his detailed medical examination in the light of the tests and his medical history.
Talking to the media, Maryam said the previous medical board had recommended shifting her father to a specialised cardiac facility. She said the night of oppression would be over soon.
Dozens of PML-N workers greeted Shahbaz and Maryam when they separately arrived at the hospital. On her way back, Maryam tweeted that Nawaz was undergoing tests and scans. “He was being taken for echocardiogram when I left. Thank you all for your continuous support, love & prayers,” she wrote.
To a question, Shahbaz said Nawaz's complete medical treatment should be conducted. He expressed displeasure when party workers chanted slogans in his favour.
It is pertinent to mention here that PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif was shifted to the Jinnah Hospital from the Kot Lakhpat Jail on Friday afternoon while Shahbaz had reached Lahore on Friday night after he was released from the Ministers Enclave in Islamabad, which had been declared sub-jail.
Owing to fatigue, Nawaz suffered back pain on Friday. Jinnah Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Asim Hameed told reporters that Nawaz was feeling better now and best medical facilities would be provided to him. He said a medical board would have complete medical examination of Nawaz and suggest further medical tests.
Sources said a meeting between the Sharifs continued for around an hour at the hospital in which they had lunch brought by Maryam from home.
Meanwhile, in a tweet, Dr Adnan Khan, personal physician of Nawaz, said the former PM had a coronary artery disease (heart disease) with multiple co-morbidities as confirmed by various special medical boards formed by the government. “He requires extensive specialized evaluation & care, aggressive treatment & intensive management.”
Earlier, Shahbaz visited his residence at Jati Umra and met his mother Shamim Begum. This was his first meeting with his mother after over four months. The party’s social media wing shared a picture of Shahbaz meeting his mother. At the moment, Shahbaz said love and prayers of his mother are the real source of strength.
Owing to strict security arrangements, patients and their attendants faced severe problems at the hospital.
