PESHAWAR: The lawyers on Thursday boycotted courts in the provincial metropolis to protest the attack on two lawyers by litigants.

Through a unanimous resolution passed in the general body meeting of the Peshawar Bar Association, the lawyers demanded the inspector general of police and provincial government to immediately transfer the station house officer of the East Cantonment Police Station to any other district within three days or else they would expand the protest.

The lawyers condemned the attack by litigants on the two lawyers, including Malik Fahimullah and Inamullah on the premises of district courts. They also flayed SHO for refusing to register a first information report against the accused.

In the meanwhile, the lawyers claimed that the police also registered a report of the attackers on the lawyers in the daily diary against the lawyers.

Peshawar Bar Association President Wakeel Zaman said that the lawyers ended the strike on the assurance of the district and sessions judge that action would be taken against the attackers on the lawyers.

He assured to take action against the police for refusing to register an FIR and not taking timely action to arrest the persons.

On the other hand, Peshawar High Court Bar Association President Syed Abdul Fayaz and General Secretary Yasir Khattak also condemned the attack on the lawyers.

They asked the police high-ups and provincial government to transfer forthwith the SHO concerned to other district and arrest the persons who had allegedly tortured the lawyers.
